James Thornton

“Innovative photo-sharing service”

by James Thornton about Nokia Image Exchange

Nokia Image Exchange offers an interesting new way to share photos online, via your phone.

Nokia Image Exchange is both a mobile client and a web application. In a nutshell, it allows you to create photo galleries, then share them with friends or with the whole world. It also lets you browse images shared by other people and allows you to connect with these people online.

The user interface in this touchscreen version of Nokia Image Exchange is divided into two sections. The My Images area lets you flick through all the images used on your phone by swiping your finger across the screen. Tap on an image and you'll get a number of options of things you can do with the picture. You can add a description, add it to your favorites, or send via email. More importantly though, you can upload it Nokia Image Exchange service using your phone's internet connection. You can choose to make the image public, share only with your contacts who have Nokia Image Exchange installed, or perform a backup of the image. All of the options are very easy to access, thanks to large, touch-friendly icons.

Perhaps the most fun to be had with Nokia Image Exchange is the Online Images section, which you can access by sliding the menu up from the bottom of the screen. Here you can view the latest images uploaded by users of the Nokia Image Exchange all over the world. Again, you can flick through them by swiping. You can view descriptions and add comments just by tapping on an image. It's possible to add images to your favorites, or add people whose photos you'd like to follow.

It's still in beta so the app is a little rough around the edges and can crash. But Nokia Image Exchange presents an interesting new way to have fun with your photos.

it was a great way to backup your photos without hooking up to a PC, it could be a battery hog if you left it on &"auto backup" but switching to manual is easy.
